2000 Mercury Cougar V6 With 34K Miles Up For Auction

The Mercury brand existed as Ford’s medium-priced vehicle lineup for a rather long time – between the 1939 and 2011 model years – before it was discontinued by The Blue Oval. Intended to bridge the gap between mainstream Ford models and those from the luxurious Lincoln brand, Mercury churned out its fair share of vehicles over that long time span, some of which are becoming collectible today. That may or may not include the Mercury Cougar of the 2000s, but this lower-mile example is now up for auction and ready to test that theory.

This 2000 Mercury Cougar is currently listed for sale at Bring a Trailer with just 34k miles on the clock, after it remained in the possession of the original owner until the selling dealer acquired it this year. Thus, as one would imagine, it remains in good condition with nice-looking Silver Frost Clearcoat Metallic, though the Carfax shows that it did suffer some damage to the front area back in 2005. As we can see here, that damage was clearly repaired at some point.

Otherwise, the interior of this sporty coupe is quite clean with Greystone cloth front bucket seats and a rear bench, all of which looks tidy and free of damage. There are a few amenities to be found, including air conditioning, cruise control, an AM/FM/CD stereo, and power windows and locks.

As for what’s under the hood, that’s the naturally-aspirated 2.5L V6 Duratec engine, which was factory rated to produce 170 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a four-speed automatic, sending power to the front wheels.

This is actually the first time we’ve come across a Mercury Cougar from this particular generation for sale at a collector car auction, but there are other models from this same brand and era surfacing for sale as of late – including a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with 22k miles that recently went up for auction.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
