2002 Ford Thunderbird With 5K Miles Up For Auction

Thanks largely to its retro style, the 11th generation Ford Thunderbird was expected to be a bit of a collector’s item from the day it launched. As such, quite a lot of folks purchased one and stashed it away with dreams of one day selling it for a huge profit. That hasn’t exactly happened, largely due to the fact that there are a lot of low-mile T-Birds of this era out there for the taking, as we see at collector car auction sites on a regular basis. The latest example is this – a 2002 Ford Thunderbird that has very few miles showing on the clock, too.

This 2002 Ford Thunderbird is up for auction over at Bring a Trailer with just 4,700 miles showing on the odometer, in fact, and it has lived its entire life with the original owner thus far. As one might imagine, it’s in great condition with Evening Black paint that only shows a few minor flaws, and it features a matching removable hardtop with porthole windows, along with a power-operated black soft top. It rolls on a set of 17-inch seven-spoke chrome Premium wheels wrapped with Michelin tires.

Inside, one will find a very sanitary interior finished in black leather with Torch Red accents throughout. Amenities include power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, the Audiophile sound system, and an AM/FM stereo with an in-dash CD changer.

As is the case with all Ford Thunderbird models from this generation, power comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.9L V8, which in this guise was factory-rated to produce 252 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.

Among this and the many other modern T-Birds we’ve spotted at auction as of late, that list also includes quite a few other nice, low-mile examples – such as another Evening Black 2002 example with 3k miles, as well as a Torch Red model from the same year with 5k miles.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  2. Beautiful car… however…
I was at a dealership where we had to locate one of these for a VIP. It was her dream car. Car comes in, it’s immaculate. I got in to move it from the transporter to the shop and was instantly reminded just how, uh, aged the interiors and feel of these cars are. The entire feel from the driver seat was identical to the 2004 Taurus wagon I drove for a bit, green backlight and all. No modern features like Bluetooth, although it did have the old 6 CD changer. Powerful engine? Less oomph than a lot of our 4-cylinders today. Smooth shifter? Nope, sourced right out of the F-150 of the day (ie, so chunky it did the Truffle Shuffle).
All that said, it was still a cool car. Our VIP kept it only a short time though.
