The Mercury Marauder has always been a coveted vehicle, which isn’t surprising for a somewhat limited-production performance-focused version of the defunct sedan. Most Mercury Marauder owners knew this going in, and as such, there are quite a few low-mile examples out there ripe for the purchasing, even today, decades after its debut. We can now add this 2003 Marauder to that list, as it just popped up for sale with few miles on the clock as well.
This 2003 Mercury Marauder is up for auction at Hagerty with just 17k original miles, in fact, and it has lived its life under two owners thus far – the current owner has had it since 2004, too. Now, it’s looking for a third, sporting nice Black Clearcoat paint, though it is showing a few typical scratches and other imperfections. The sedan rolls on a set of polished 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, and features the unique, monochromatic appearance that made these cars easy to recognize in the wild.
Inside, one will find Dark Charcoal leather upholstery, along with power-adjustable front seats, windows, locks, and mirrors, the factory AM/FM/CD stereo system, and air conditioning. The seller does note that there’s a single imperfection inside the cabin – a scratch on the left front seat back – but otherwise, all we see is normal wear.
As is the case with all Marauders, this one is powered by the naturally-aspirated Ford 4.6L V8, which in this guise was factory-rated to produce 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
This is just one of many Mercury Marauder sedans we’ve seen hit the auction block as of late – a list that also includes another Black Clearcoat 2003 with 18k miles that was previously modified but later returned to stock, as well as a 2004 model finished in the rare exterior color known as Dark Toreador Red.
