Over the years, we’ve seen our fair share of vehicles pulled from various bodies of water, oftentimes, after being there for many years. The reasons behind this sort of trend run the gamut from drivers having medical episodes while traveling to folks trying to dump or hide stolen vehicles, and pretty much everything in between. Recently, chaos divers discovered yet another vehicle submerged in a body of water – a Lincoln Town Car – which had been missing for quite a long time.
According to CBS Chicago News, the chaos divers discovered the older Lincoln Town Car in a suburban retention pond recently, with human remains inside the sedan. Those divers used sonar to locate the vehicle, and it’s one of a whopping 90 that they’ve discovered while tooling around recently, most of which were found in the Chicago River. Their mission is to help solve cold cases, which is precisely what led them to this particular retention pond.
Turns out, this Lincoln Town Car is connected to a 2001 missing persons case, but sadly, it seems as if that person perished in the vehicle. Police haven’t identified the body yet, but say they’re “confident” they’ll be able to do so, despite the fact that the sedan has been submerged in water for over two decades. Amazingly, the retention pond is only around five feet deep, making it quite surprising that it was able to conceal the vehicle for so long – though the water is admittedly quite murky.
Now, hopefully, this discovery will bring some closure to any impacted friends or relatives of the person found inside, which is precisely what the chaos divers are aiming to do. This discovery also comes mere months after a 1997 Ford Mustang convertible was pulled from a body of water in Michigan, discovered by a public works department at the bottom of Belleville Lake in Wayne County.
