The future Ford EV battery plant known as BlueOval Battery Park Michigan has faced its fair share of adversity over the years since it was originally announced, but it remains on track to begin building lithium iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries for EVs starting next year, regardless. The future of that Ford EV battery plant is even arguably up in the air given a recent decision by the Michigan Supreme Court that revives a lawsuit filed by a group of local residents. In the meantime, the plant is already generating income for the economy, regardless.
According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, Ford BlueOval Battery Park Michigan is already paying property taxes, and has around 100 employees on the payroll, even though it has yet to build a single battery. At the same time, there’s construction going on at the plant and around it, which is fueling a number of contractors and companies tasked with doing things like upgrading surrounding roads. When it’s finished, BlueOval Battery Park Michigan is expected to employ 1,700 workers and dish out around $5 million in local property taxes in total.
“BlueOval Battery Park Michigan will benefit the Marshall area for years to come, and it is already making a positive impact on our communities,” said Derek Perry, city manager of Marshall. “It’s exciting to see the broad benefits of the project today as well as the increased tax revenue that will support police and fire, roads, parks, recreation, transit, local libraries and our schools.”
“With 2,200 skilled trades workers currently on site, this single project is generating over $100 million of wealth in the form of new salaries every year,” added James Durian, CEO of the Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance. “It is incredibly rewarding to see this project help our economy here in Marshall and also ripple far out to other regions across the state.”
