Ford Ranger Redesign Slated Before Decade’s End

The all-new, current-generation Ford Ranger debuted in a handful of global markets back in 2022 for the 2023 model year, after which the mid-size pickup arrived in the U.S. for the 2024 model year. Regardless, we’re already looking ahead to this pickup’s next mid-cycle refresh, and as Ford Authority recently reported, that is now expected to happen in 2027. As for the next Ford Ranger redesign, it seems as if it will follow before the end of the decade, too.

According to Automotive News, the Ford Ranger is currently expected to be treated to a redesign in 2029, two years after its mid-cycle refresh. The same report notes that the Ranger could get a hybrid powertrain as part of the refresh, which is something that we’ve been expecting for a while now. Ford plans to add a hybrid powertrain option across its entire ICE-focused Blue lineup by 2030 – which the Ranger is part of – so the timing would make sense in this case.

Otherwise, we could see the addition of new variants, such as the Tremor, which is on sale in other markets but hasn’t been seen in the U.S. since the last-generation pickup was sold there. As Ford Authority reported back in May, the Ford F-150 and Ford Ranger are also expected to ditch the automaker’s SYNC 4 infotainment software in favor of the new Ford Digital Experience software. Ford EV digital and design chief Doug Field teased this possibility recently, saying that “we will be able to take our very successful Ford and Lincoln Digital Experience that we’ve launched in the Ford Explorer, Lincoln Nautilus and Navigator to many more products like Mustang, Bronco, Ranger, and F-150.”

As for the Ford Bronco – which shares a platform with the Ford Ranger and is also built alongside it at the Michigan Assembly plant – it apparently isn’t going to get a mid-cycle refresh at all, though a redesign is currently planned for 2029. In the meantime, the Bronco will continue to gain new special editions and variants in the coming model years.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
