The Ford Authority Take

Ford has filed a rather large number of pet-related patents in recent years, which makes sense given the sheer number of folks that transport their pets on a regular basis. That list includes ideas for things like a pet monitoring and control system, as well as a pet detection system. Now, this newly published patent combines those ideas somewhat, this time, into a concept for a vehicle control and pet detection system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.

The concept behind this particular patent is quite simple, however – it aims to control the windows in a vehicle, based on the presence of a pet inside. The system would use sensors and/or cameras to first determine if there is a pet inside of the vehicle, as well as its size and where it’s located in the interior. The system could even incentivize the pet to brace themselves when a vehicle is making a sharp turn, which it would do by playing sounds, dispensing treats, or opening/closing windows, making for a pretty interesting concept.

“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
