The redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator have been on sale since earlier this year after both made their official debut last October – bringing with them a host of updates ranging from revamped exterior styling to new features and a very much overhauled interior. Those updates have clearly resonated with consumers, as both of those large SUVs have enjoyed tremendous demand, turning on dealer lots in rapid fashion and posting strong sales results. Turns out, the 2025 Ford Expedition is also attracting a lot of customers from General Motors, too.
In fact, the 2025 Ford Expedition actually managed to outsell its chief rival, the Chevy Tahoe, in Q2 2025 – something that hasn’t happened in over five years. On top of that, Ford says that “many new owners came to us from GM vehicles,” which is rather notable. The 2025 Ford Expedition accounted for 40 percent of the entire large traditional SUV segment’s growth in the second quarter, winding up with a market share of 24.1 percent – up from 19 percent the year prior.

Through Q2, Expedition sales grew by 43.9 percent to 31,298 units, and in August, that accelerated to a 53.7 percent increase. Both the new Expedition and Navigator got off to a hot start earlier this year, transacting at prices 18-23 percent higher than their predecessors and turning on dealer lots in less than nine days as of May, in fact. The Ford Expedition enjoyed its best May sales performance in 20 years, growing by 43 percent compared to May 2024 and totaling 11,298 vehicles. As for the Lincoln Navigator, it enjoyed an even more robust 133 percent sales increase to 2,843 units in May, which was its best performance in that particular month since 2004.

That said, it should be noted that the 2025 Ford Expedition lineup – included the extended length Max – competes against the Tahoe and the Suburban, as General Motors splits its standard and extended length Chevy body-on-frame three row SUV into two distinct nameplates, unlike Ford. With the Suburban in the mix, General Motors still holds a healthy lead over the Ford, and that doesn’t take into account the GMC Yukon either, which straddles the line between the mainstream and luxury three row utility segments.
Both the 2025 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator usher in full redesigns complete with upgraded exterior styling, the first-ever Split Gate feature out back, and thoroughly revamped interiors with new screens and the new Ford/Lincoln Digital Experience software.
