Impaired Ford Escape Driver Takes Out Monster Truck: Video

In a matchup of a Ford Escape and a literal monster truck, most people probably wouldn’t bet on the crossover. But when an Escape driven by an impaired driver drilled a monster truck that was parked outside its owner’s home, both vehicles came out worse for wear, but the monster truck got the worst of it.

According to a report from Fox 12 Oregon, the monster truck, named “Pure Insanity,” is owned by Derek “Barney” Barnum for almost 20 years. It began life as a 1973 Dodge pickup, and Barnum personally customized the truck into what it is today. It stars in quite a few shows every year, but it’s going to need some work after a Ford Escape slammed into it while it was parked.

Video still of the Ford Escape that struck the parked monster truck on its side. The driver was intoxicated, but was not seriously injured in the crash.

Barnum said he heard something that sounded like a “rocket.” He immediately went outside to check on Pure Insanity, and found that the truck, which had been sitting on a trailer, had been pushed onto the road and was sitting sideways. Barnum then noticed the Ford Escape lying on its side next to the monster truck.

“[The Ford Escape driver] was coming up the road here, she got underneath those tires and picked the truck up,” Barnum said. “The truck weighs 6,825 pounds, so to lift my truck up? That’d take a lot of velocity.”

The driver was suspected of driving while intoxicated, which explains how they managed to crash into a parked monster truck. Thankfully, the Escape’s driver was uninjured in the bizarre crash, but Pure Insanity needs some surgery before it can return to the track.

“It’s got a bent wheel, it’s got rear axle housing which is like a half inch steel that’s bent,” Barnum explained. “In our time, we’ve done a lot of crazy shows and a lot of jumping and a lot of car crushing, but never crushed a car this way before.”

We don’t think we need to say it, but driving drunk is never a good idea. A Ford Mustang Mach-E driven by a drunk motorist starred in a viral TikTok video, and the driver was subsequently arrested for a DUI.

  1. Yes, the Escape driver was impaired and that’s the definitive blame here. BUT, that truck had no right being parked on a street, either. Things like that should be relegated to yards, by law. And illegal on roadways, including driving on them. Transport to shows on a trailer.
