Lincoln Lineup Will Expand By One Nameplate Soon: Report

For some time now, the Lincoln lineup has consisted of just a few crossovers and SUVs – the Corsair, Nautilus, Aviator, and Navigator. However, the luxury brand’s dealers have long been asking for something else, and that’s also true of many consumers, too, all while Blue Oval brass have hinted at some kind of expansion for some time. Thus, it stands to reason that we’ll see at least one additional Lincoln model added to the lineup at some point soon, and that notion is now being supported by a new report.

This report comes to us from Automotive News, which is saying that Lincoln dealers have been promised an additional nameplate by Lincoln executives “in the near future.” What that product might be remains entirely unclear, which is also true of when it might enter production or where it might be built. AN speculates that this new model could be an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) of some sort, which is a type of powertrain Ford has been working on for a while now and plans to offer in more than one future product.

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently revealed that he nixed the idea of making Lincoln an EV-only brand, something that others had previously pined for and a few of its rivals are currently transitioning to. Farley also admittedly isn’t a fan of the idea of making an affordable Lincoln hybrid, either, though he is interested in potentially offering customers some “over the top” customization options, as many luxury auto brands already do.

As far as what Lincoln dealers have been requesting, that list includes, interestingly, some sort of sedan, which is a type of vehicle that Ford hasn’t offered in the U.S in years now. That council has also requested that Lincoln add some kind of “halo” product to its portfolio, which it believes could help bring awareness to the brand.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. If the car is a luxury sedan, I will consider it. If it´s an abominable SUV or a crossover, then I´m not interested. Today, Lincoln is nothing but a vulgar joke compared to what it one was and has absolutely nothing to do against the brands it intends to compete. I have owed Lincoln Town Car and Lincoln Versailles before, but hasn´t even consider Lincoln since the day they stopped producing sedans and luxury vehicles. I will not buy another Lincoln until they produce a real luxury sedan or a luxury sports coupe. Consider the overstuffed Ford SUV´s and crossovers they produced today as luxury vehicles, is another joke.

    1. The Town Car was a sales dud its last few years. The Continental came back, but was half hearted attempt.

      1. I agree! Plus, no effort was made to update the styling of the Town Car! The Lincoln lineup needs a sedan that is truly a luxury car with great styling!

        1. Exactly! I want a luxury SEDAN. So sick of all the others. Come on Lincoln! Lead the way!

    2. The Town Car was a Dinosaur that people stopped buying, the Versailles was a fancy Ford Granada. If you haven’t bought a new Lincoln since then you probably will never buy one again

  2. It’ll be an unwanted EV, no doubt.

    1. You never know what you are talking about. Lincoln has already announced that they will not be building a full EV vehicle.

  3. Most of us don’t want or will NEVER buy an EV !!!!!! Why are you still building or expanding the building of this crap !!!!!!! Only communists continue doing the same thing over and over expecting different results and charging more and more for them . I never thought Ford and especially Lincoln to be run by communists !!!! Perhaps what you are telling me and others is that we need to search for another car maker !!!!!!

    1. EVs make on a communist? What a ridiculous comment.

    2. Lincoln doesn’t have an EV vehicle. What are you talking about?

    3. I get where you are coming from John. YES communists, deep state, WEF illuminati, etc etc. The shadow government has taken over all 7 mountains of influence on this planet. But God! He has mobilized His Heavenly armies and they are defeating the deep state. It cannot happen without prayer. Keep praying believers. We want our country back!

  4. What is needed is a continental or town car that is similar in size to an audi A8L
A Mercedes s class. Mate the ecoboost to a smooth 8 speed auto with AWD

    No ford parts bin interior.

The last continental was nice but way too small. Too narrow too short

    1. The biggest problem i had with the last Continental was the back seat headroom. I’m 6’0″ and my head was brushing the headliner. In a mid sized car, that’s understandable. But for your largest sedan, it makes no sense.

    2. Bring a Continental based on the Mustang with coach doors. A nice large V8 with RWD or AWD.

  6. This halo vehicle must not be a Lincoln- trimmed Ford clone either. Same for the other unnamed vehicles. The previous Continental wasn’t full potential either being a Ford based clone. Wishing for a proper LS sports sedan with V8, proper Continental Sedan/ Coupe/ Convertible and the halo mark 9 but they all need to be developed right from the beginning and no half-baked whatevers either. The LS was the last true Lincoln, so the brand has a lot of catching up to do.

  7. So many here are demanding a Lincoln sedan. And to an extent, I can kind of see where you’re coming from… but, the real question to ask is, why?
Is it purely nostalgia, what you’re “used to”, hipster-esque rejection of where “the masses” are in their current vehicle purchases, who knows?
Because from a purely business/ROI point of view, I doubt anyone here can make a case that makes sense for FoMoCo to invest the millions into it would take to bring a new sedan to market, that would actually make them any profit. You know, the entire reason any company exists.
    Look at cars fom 2020 to now, like;
    Cadillac CT6, China-only,
    Acura RLX, discontinued,
    Genesis G90, <2k sales/year,
    Lexus LS, <4k sales/year,
    Volvo S90, <2k sales/year.
And we also have to be honest with ourselves here. There is of course an outcry for such a product here, an automotive platform. But "the masses" that are actually out there buying vehicles are speaking loud and clear with their wallets and sedans aren't it. Not anymore at least. Do I like that, no. But I also recognise that I'm in a small niche of people/buyers.

    1. You are 100% correct. Most people who comment here live in a world 30 years ago. Sedans are dropping like flies and Ford lost billions on them and removed them from the line up. Today 18% of the US Market is sedans with most of it being, Camry, Accord, Corolla, Civic. That share is also dropping. BMW and MB sedan sales are way off from their peak years, and Volvo discontinued 2 models, Malibu, Legacy, and the list goes on. Infinity has no 4-doors either.

      1. So, we move on from Lincoln and buy a Genesis or Cadillac instead. Lincoln is doomed with nothing exciting. They only make 1940’s design trucks. Wouldn’t your comment also be directed to Mustang as well? They are beating a “dead horse” and living in the past with that Brand. Lincoln is on life support with nothing exciting that we know of. Lincoln will be further doomed once Corsair is discontinued.

    1. When it was Town Cars and Continentals, no one was interested.

      1. Because they were not constantly being updated and refined to the point that satisfied us. They were only updated “just to get by” The previous Continental should have been on either CD6 or S650 and not a fancy Ford Taurus with expensive trim packages to fool us.

  11. I would like to see a Lincoln sedan HEV and PHEV in AWD, but I’ll also defend Lincoln’s SUV lineup. I have a Nautilus and I absolutely love it. It is very quiet, the ride is wonderful, and acceleration is very good. It’s the most comfortable car I’ve ever owned and I’ve previously owned a Coupe de Ville. My next car, if I live long enough will be an Aviator or another Nautilus.

  12. They made the Lincoln’s too short now. I know it doesn’t bother most people, but to load a wheelchair in the car, suv etc, you have to lay down the back seats. I love my Lincoln, but won’t buy a new one for this reason alone. And I’m not the only one with this problem

  13. As long as Failure Farley is in charge, there will never be a Lincoln sedan, Failure Farley has to be fired before a Lincoln sedan becomes a reality.

  15. I agree killing off the Corsair without a replacement is the kiss of death for Lincoln. They will have 3 vehicle’s left all of which are north of $65K. Once that happens sales volume for Lincoln will drop to below 70K, not enough for Lincoln to survive. Then potentially replacing it with some sort of EV will certainly add the Lincoln’s demise. Blame this all on Jim Farley who has been taking the Ford Motor Company in the wrong direction for years
