Mercury Grand Marquis Narrowly Avoids Hitting Audi Sedan: Video

Intersections are some of the most dangerous parts of driving. Even if you’re doing everything right, all it takes is one motorist to turn it around for the worst. The driver of one Mercury Grand Marquis almost ended up in a sticky situation when an Audi decided that yielding on a left turn across traffic was optional.

For once, the cammer – or the person who recorded the video – was not involved in the accident, which they posted to r/IdiotsInCars on Reddit. The cammer is sitting at an intersection, waiting to cross. Their side – the through lanes – have a green light. In other words, the Mercury Grand Marquis traveling across the intersection has clear right of way but the Audi sedan trying to make an unprotected left turn doesn’t appear to care.

The Audi slows down before hanging a left, putting its broadside right in the path of the Mercury Grand Marquis. At least instead of panic braking, the Audi’s driver stands on the accelerator. The Mercury’s driver makes a split-second decision to brake hard, causing the rear end of their sedan to buck as they narrowly miss each other – almost like they’re in a figure eight race.

Thankfully, the two vehicles don’t actually hit. The Audi completes its turn and the Mercury Grand Marquis continues on its way, undoubtedly shaken by the close call. As some commenters point out, it’s probably wise to proceed with caution when there is a long line of stopped traffic. If someone doesn’t try to cut across traffic, they’ll probably try to dive out of line and cut you off, or some well-meaning bystander will wave them through, creating exactly the situation this Audi and Mercury found themselves in.

Turning left is apparently difficult. The driver of a Ford F-150 didn’t use their eyes or their mirrors while turning, apparently, taking out an innocent motorist.
