New EVO Package Will Make Ford Mustang GT3 Racers Even Meaner

The Dark Horse-based Ford Mustang GT3 debuted just over two years ago as the ride of choice for Blue Oval teams in international sports car racing. Ford Racing recently announced that there are changes headed for the race car in 2026, thanks to the forthcoming EVO package – changes that will make the Mustang GT3 even more of a force to be reckoned with on track.

For now, the finer details of the EVO kit are being kept under wraps, but Ford Racing promises that it will improve the performance of the Ford Mustang GT3 on the global sports car racing circuit. The kit will debut for the 2026 season.

“Whether we are producing cars for the track or for the road, Ford Racing is always striving to exceed our customers’ expectations,” said Alex Allmandinger, Ford Racing global sports car manager.

He added, “We are continuing to build upon the success of the Mustang GT3 platform with an EVO package for 2026, pushing development and continued improvement for our teams and partners. As we celebrate 125 years since Ford’s first race win, we remain committed to competing at the highest level.”

As a reminder, the Ford Mustang GT3 got off to a bit of a rocky start. Teams struggled with speed and performance, and even build quality, prompting the FIA to approve a fix to address parts of the race cars that were literally falling off at race speed. Torque sensors also proved challenging for Mustang GT3 teams, putting them at a disadvantage during the pony racer’s first season.

It’s not that the Ford Mustang GT3 isn’t already fast, but teams just haven’t had the long-run pace to win races. Proton Competition’s two Mustang GT3 entries locked out the LMGT3 front row in the recent FIA World Endurance Championship race at Circuit of the Americas, but didn’t have the finishes to show how fast the race cars were in qualifying.

It will certainly be interesting to see what this new EVO package entails – and if it will make the Ford Mustang GT3 even more competitive.
