Over the years, the Ford Pinto has gotten a bit of a bad wrap, largely due to the fact that certain models experienced an issue where they would catch on fire when struck from the rear, which led to a massive recall and an enduring reputation. Regardless, there are still folks that have a bit of a soft spot for the Pinto, which came about as a small, thrifty vehicle with an affordable price tag and lots of promise – ultimately recording three million sales across a decade of production. Now, this pristine 1979 Ford Pinto Squire Wagon is heading to auction, giving fans the chance to bring home a nice example.
This 1979 Ford Pinto Squire Station Wagon is scheduled to cross the block at Barrett-Jackson’s 2025 Fall Scottsdale, Arizona auction next month, and it’s in pretty incredible condition, no matter where one looks. It was originally sold at Metro Ford in Calgary, Canada, but looks no worse for wear to this day, thanks to the fact that the owner reportedly didn’t drive it in the winter at all.
It was also apparently stored in a garage when not in use, and as such, it has no rust present. The factory Midnight Blue Metallic paint is in great condition, too, which is also the case with the Squire Woody trim package that’s present and accounted for.
Inside the cabin, that theme continues with a stellar deluxe blue plaid interior with bucket seats up front, and this Pinto wagon is bone stock in every department, too. Power comes from the original naturally-aspirated 2.3L engine, mated to the C3 automatic transmission.
Amazingly, this isn’t the first pristine example of a Ford Pinto Squire Wagon we’ve seen hit the auction block as of late. In fact, this past July, a 1974 model surfaced for sale with 40k miles on the clock, looking like it had just rolled off the showroom floor, too.
