These days, any Ford GT from either of that model’s two generations (which debuted decades after the original GT40) are worth a significant amount of money. However, that hasn’t always been the case – in fact, it wasn’t too terribly long ago that one could purchase a first-generation Ford GT on the used market for less than its original MSRP, though that’s obviously no longer possible, it seems. Thus, it makes a lot of sense that even wrecked examples of the Ford GT are worth repairing, as is the case with this one.
This 2005 Ford GT was recently purchased by the folks at the throtl YouTube channel after it was wrecked and subsequently written off as unrepairable, and now, they plan on returning the mangled up supercar to its former glory. As one might imagine, the car is in pretty terrible condition, with plenty of cracks in its structure that need to be repaired, not to mention the fact that the Ford GT itself is already a basket case of parts just lying around.
Luckily, there are quite a few new parts included in that pile, as it becomes clear that someone did plan on fixing up this Ford GT previously – though they clearly gave up on that endeavor. It does look like the car took a pretty hard hit in the rear, as that’s where most of the damage lies, and it’s going to take quite a lot of work to repair. However, the plan is to have this GT rebuilt in time for the 2025 SEMA Show this November, where it will take up residence in the WD40 booth.
Meeting that deadline won’t be easy, as this Ford GT needs to be taken apart completely, bolt by bolt, repaired, and put back together in just a few weeks. Some of those parts may be expensive or difficult to acquire as well, and that’s not even accounting for all the work needed to fix its structural damage – but all of that makes this project worth following, we’d say.
