2025 Ford Expedition Zone Lightning Intensity Based On Card Games

Ford has offered Zone Lighting on certain models for a while now, which enables owners to “light up” the ground surrounding a vehicle via specially-placed elements placed in different zones. Many owners have found this feature to be handy for a variety of scenarios, including camping, tailgating, or other outdoor activities, which is precisely why it opted to include Zone Lighting as part of the 2025 Ford Expedition redesign. However, when it came time to determine the intensity that lighting would provide, Ford engineers had a pretty interesting bit of motivation.

According to Car and Driver, the 2025 Ford Expedition team had a simple goal in mind when determining just how many lumens the SUV’s Zone Lighting would need to offer customers – if one can’t play a game of cards using only those lights, it needed to be brighter. It’s an interesting revelation, and much simpler than one would expect, given how much time and the resources automakers tend to invest in such things.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2025 Ford Expedition team also heavily leaned on customer feedback to tweak that SUV in various ways, too. According to The Blue Oval, customers were already pleased with the previous-generation Expedition’s ride quality, but they also wanted the SUV to exhibit less impact harshness when driving over small bumps, potholes, and imperfections. To do that, Ford looked to the front suspension present in Ford F-150 pickups, and then retuned the springs and shocks, softened the body mounts, redesigned pieces of the rear frame and hitch, and updated the attachment location for the stabilizer bar.

Additionally, YouTuber Doug DeMuro helped convince Ford to incorporate the new Split Tailgate feature in the redesigned Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, as he recently revealed. “Lincoln people told me that my videos talking about how much I love this feature were an inspiration for them in getting this feature through management and added to the new Navigator which is lovely to hear,” DeMuro said.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
