Cheap cars are a coin toss. You can either end up with a headache or a hidden gem. One £200 Ford Fiesta turned out to be a surprisingly good deal for YouTuber High Peak Autos, even though its prior owner practically drove it into the pavement.
For reference, that £200 roughly equates to $266 USD, meaning it’s a hell of a deal no matter how you look at it. The previous owner was ready to send the Ford Fiesta to the scrapyard, and High Peak is going in blind – they haven’t even seen a picture of the vehicle for sale. But it’s a risk they’re willing to take. It’s a 2011 model year hatchback, and it is showing its age a bit. It’s filthy and is covered in mold and moss, and it’s also quite high mileage, showing over 145,000 miles racked up in its lifetime.
Other than that, it’s in decent physical condition. After a preliminary inspection, it’s time to try to fire the cheap Ford Fiesta up. It turns over without hesitation, and the clutch feels great. It doesn’t even seem to have the typical Fiesta issues, rolling off cleanly. It’s not the quickest – typical for a diesel Fiesta before it’s fully warmed up – but it seems to run just fine, in sound mechanical condition, too.
There’s one question in High Peak‘s mind: why was this Ford Fiesta headed for the scrapyard? He can’t really find anything wrong with it, and after some elbow grease, it cleans up nicely. It’s practically brand new after being detailed, and it doesn’t even look like the same car. There’s literally nothing wrong with it, but because it looked like a mess and the previous owner admitted to wanting to scrap it, the price reflected that – and lucky for High Peak, it’s a “good little runner.”
Presenter Ant Anstead lucked out with a MK1 Ford Capri not too long ago, too – and with some TLC, a 1999 Ford Festiva found new life as a reliable around-town car.
