Ford Transit UK’s Second Most Popular Van Of September 2025

In the United Kingdom, the light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales charts have essentially remained unchanged for years now, at least, as it pertains to the top two spots. There, we just expect to see the Ford Transit Custom rank first in both LCV and van sales, with the larger Ford Transit right behind it in second place. It’s difficult to remember a time when that wasn’t the case, and as such, it’s no surprise to see that nothing changed atop the UK LCV sales charts in September 2025, either.

Rather, according to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Ford Transit Custom once again ranked atop the UK van and light-duty commercial vehicle charts by recording 7,725 sales, which placed it ahead of the second-place Ford Transit and its 4,762 sales. The Ford Ranger came in third place with 3,109 registrations, followed by the Volkswagen Transporter (which shares much in common with the Transit Custom) in fourth place overall with 2,256 new registrations.

Through the first nine months of the year, the Ford Transit Custom holds a commanding lead with 38,185 sales in the books, followed by the regular Transit (22,842 sales), the Ranger (14,356), and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (10,348). As for the overall UK LCV market, it dropped by 2.1 percent to 47,418 sales in September, though EV vans enjoyed a 41.1 percent increase, claiming 8.9 percent of that market.

“September is one of the busiest months for the new van market so a slight dip in volumes compared with previous strong years is disappointing but unsurprising,” said SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes. “The growth in electric van uptake is hugely encouraging, but the market is under pressure to deliver the investment necessary for decarbonization. Manufacturers are delivering a huge choice of models to suit all businesses – now we need better dedicated infrastructure and continuing incentives to drive the switch.”

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
