Future Ford EVs Could Get Calendar-Based Recharging Strategies

Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for calendar-based recharging strategies that may be used in future Ford EVs, Ford Authority has learned.

The patent was filed on March 27th, 2024, published on October 2nd, 2025, and assigned serial number 0303904.

The Ford Authority Take

Charging is one of those things that factors majorly into consumer interest in electric vehicles, which is why Ford and others have focused on making that process as convenient as possible – not only by building more public chargers, but also, offering free at-home units, too. Ford continues to explore additional ways to make charging more convenient via patents, with one recently filed that could give owners charger reservation capability. Now, this newly published patent introduces us to an idea for calendar-based recharging strategies that may be used in future Ford EVs, too.

The concept here is to ensure that an electric vehicle has sufficient charge for upcoming trips based on one’s calendar events, which is a pretty nifty concept, indeed. The system would be able to calculate precisely how much charge an EV needs to reach their destination and then charge the vehicle as such, so that it’s ready to go on that particular day and time – even factoring in pre-conditioning. Currently, EVs allow owners to schedule charges, but this would take that step out of the equation entirely, making it potentially more convenient, if the system does become a reality one day.

“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
