Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an electronic vehicle driving method and system that may be used in future Ford EVs, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on May 10th, 2023, published on October 14th, 2025, and assigned serial number 12441240.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed a few patents revolving around various ways its future vehicles may use speakers to do all sorts of things over the past few months. One such idea is use a directional speaker system that would be able to detect where people are located in regard to the vehicle, and then alter the direction of audio so that they can hear it better – and even adjust volume accordingly. Now, this newly published patent presents us with another speaker-related idea for an electronic vehicle driving method and system that may be used in future Ford EVs, too.
As Ford points out in this patent, EVs are quite a bit quieter than ICE vehicles, which isn’t always a good thing. Rather, in certainly situations such as off-roading, there are times when it may be more difficult to adjust throttle input to prevent wheel slippage from occurring, given the fact that we can’t hear an EV’s motor in quite the same way as the revs from an ICE engine.
Thus, this patent aims to help out in that area by using a vehicle’s speakers and display to warn the driver when wheel slippage is occurring, or when a vehicle’s speed exceeds preset thresholds. The system would be able to measure each individual wheel and then provide specific feedback, which could prove helpful for EV drivers in certain scenarios.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
