Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a system that could help detect and replace flat tires that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on April 10th, 2024, published on October 16th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0319733.
In recent months, Ford has presented us with a few ways that its future vehicles may be able to detect when certain wear items or parts are in need of replacement or maintenance – before things break or fail entirely. Those ideas have come via patent filings for ideas such as a system that could estimate the remaining useful life of parts, and another for a tire rotation system that would notify users when it’s time to complete that task. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going with a concept for a system that could detect flat tires and even help us replace them on future Ford vehicles.
This particular system would use sensors to determine when a vehicle has a flat tire, after which it would notify the user and give them a few options to choose from. One is a tire change mode, which would raise the air suspension to its maximum height to make that task easier, or off-road mode, for times when one is airing down to improve traction.
Finally, there’s a service mode, which one could choose if they’re simply serving the tires. In each case, the purpose here – aside from preventing a potential accident – is to help prevent damage from occurring to a vehicle’s air suspension.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
If it looks familiar, that's because it did make it to production.

If this system makes it into production, it will be recalled like most Ford products are today, I hope this system is so expensive to implement that it forces Ford to cancel it, therefore saving their unlucky customer another recall headache to deal with.
