The Ford Motor Company Halewood Transmisison plant, also known as Halewood Body and Assembly, is a transmission manufacturing joint venture project owned by Ford and Getrag. The plant is located in the town of Halewood, Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Halewood began its operations in the early 1960’s as an automobile production complex for Ford vehicles It would assemble the Ford Anglia and the Ford Corsair. It eventually oversaw the assembly of the European-market Ford Escort and Ford Capri, but ended up losing these manufacturing rights to the Ford Motor Company Cologne Body & Assembly plant in Germany.
During the early 2000’s – when Ford owned the Jaguar Land Rover company – Halewood became a manufacturing hub for Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. However in 2008, when Ford sold Jaguar Land Rover to Tata Motors in India, Ford retained ownership of Halewood’s transmission plant where it established a 50/50 joint-venture with Getrag.
While the rest of the facility still overseas Jaguar Land Rover products, the Halewood transmission plant currently manufactures the Ford PowerShift six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for the European-market Ford Fiesta and B-MAX, as well as for variations of the Ford EcoBoost 1.6L Dragon engine.
