The Ford E-Transit Custom was revealed back in May as one of seven new all-electric vehicles set to launch in Europe by 2024, including multiple Transit EV vans. At that time, Ford didn’t provide too many details about the E-Transit Custom, however, which is customary for new vehicle debuts. Now that we’re inching closer to the actual launch of the Ford E-Transit Custom, The Blue Oval has revealed more details about the new all-electric van, including the all-important scheduled start of production.
The Transit Custom utilizes a 400-volt, 74 kWh battery pack mounted directly to the body with 82 Ah pouch cells that it shares with the Ford F-150 Lightning to deliver 12 percent more energy density than the E‑Transit, with a targeted range of 380 kilometers (236 miles). Customers can choose between two available outputs – 100 kW or 160 kW (133 or 214 horsepower) – though each of which produces the same 415 Nm (306 pound-feet) of torque. The van can tow up to 2,000 kilograms (4,409 pounds) with a max payload of 1,100 kilograms (2,425 pounds), and is available with an optional retractable towbar.
In terms of charging, the E-Transit Custom features an 11 kW AC three-phase onboard charger that is capable of fully recharging the battery in 7.8 hours. DC fast charging of up to 125 kW results in a 15-80 percent recharge of 41 minutes, adding around 38 kilometers (24 miles) of range in five minutes. A 12-month complimentary subscription to the Blue Oval Charging Network is included. Meanwhile, Ford’s ProPower Onboard generator delivers up to 2.3 kW of portable power.
The Ford E-Transit Custom is equipped with vapor-injected heat pump technology to heat and cool the cabin, which is designed to maximize energy efficiency for optimum driving range. It also features an energy-efficient braking system with one-pedal drive capability, which blends friction braking with regenerative braking that harvests energy during deceleration to top up the battery for extra driving range.
The Ford E-Transit Custom is available in double-cab-in-van and kombi body styles with a choice of short or long wheelbase and low or high roof configurations. Inside the cabin, owners will find a new 13‑inch landscape touchscreen running SYNC 4. Ford says that the EV van delivers up to a 40 percent savings in terms of cost of ownership compared to an equivalent diesel model, which is obviously the main selling point for fleets.
The all-new E-Transit Custom will be built by Ford Otosan in Kocaeli, Turkey, and is currently scheduled to enter production in the fall of 2023.

The faulty units may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing a short circuit.
A very cool sort of one-off build.
A quirky car for a quirky race.
