While the Ford Maverick has been a smash hit with consumers since its launch for the 2022 model year, the same can be said of critics as well – most notably, Consumer Reports, which previously named the compact pickup as one of its recommended vehicles, as well as one of the most reliable new vehicles one can buy for less than $30k. Now, that praise continues, as the Ford Maverick has now made the cut as one of Consumer Reports‘ most reliable used pickups – joining the Ford Ranger in that regard.
As Consumer Reports points out, three-year-old vehicles are smart buys given the fact that they’ve already experienced a good deal of depreciation, yet are new enough that they still have plenty of standard safety and tech features. Additionally, most leases cover three years, meaning that many of this age are turn-ins that have low miles and are more likely to have been treated with care over that time span, too, with scheduled maintenance completed as prescribed, to boot.
In that regard, the Ford Maverick made the cut thanks to its solid predicted reliability scores, which are based on feedback from Consumer Reports‘ owner surveys. The popular pickup also performed well in CR‘s road testing, and received a good overall owner satisfaction score as well.
Other than its stellar reliability, Consumer Reports praised the Ford Maverick for its excellent fuel economy – particularly in the hybrid model – along with a quiet ride, smooth operation, “super-easy” to use controls, and “commendable” maneuverability, visibility, and access into the cabin. CR does note that the Maverick’s interior is pretty utilitarian, however, and said that its 4.5-foot bed is rather small as well – but in this case, “deep enough to be practical.”

Before the great shortage the Maverick was a good deal. Now, with markups and continual reduction in production to keep inventory low and prices high, its not worth it.

Subjective. Unlike the Hyundai, the Maverick at least looks like a truck.
I disagree. The Tesla pick up is the ugliest by far.
Then why is there a waiting list pushing 6 months to get one ?
I am not sure how they can rate it as one of the most reliable vehicles because it's only been available for 2 or 3 years. Let's ask the same questions to the same people 5 or 10 years down the road. I don't trade in my vehicles after 3 years and would really like their opinions at least after 5 years of owning one IMHO.
Then why is there a waiting list of 6 months to get one ?

Well, I ordered a '22, took delivery about 8-mos later.
I now have just under 10K, trouble-free miles on it.
Very comfortable, quick, consistently gets 28mpg, and handles like a go-cart.
I absolutely love mine, would highly recommend one to anyone seeking a versatile, economical, and inexpensive new vehicle.
And, though styling is a subjective call, I like the Maverick's design. Much prefer its lines to those of it's competition ( the Santa Cruz)...
which looks to me like just another of the hundreds of clone-like crossovers on the market today.
The Maverick actually looks like a proper (Ford) truck.
Because they only make 10 a month.
