Ford Owned Michigan Central Station Celebrates Milestone

Ford spent several years completely renovating the historic yet long-neglected Michigan Central Station site in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, and just celebrated its grand opening in grand fashion in early June. Since then, the site has begun welcoming mobility workers and students aiming to one day work in that particular field, as well as quite a few visitors. In fact, Michigan Central Station just hit a notable milestone in terms of visitor attendance mere weeks after it opened up to the public.

That milestone is hosting 100,000 visitors, a pretty impressive figure given the fact that Michigan Central Station hasn’t been open very long at all. The Station’s 10-day Open House celebration attracted a whopping 50,000 guests, and since then, it’s averaging 3,000 visitors on Friday evenings and 5,000 visitors on Saturdays. Given this strong interest, the site has decided to extend its Summer at The Station event through Labor Day weekend to give more people the chance to see the renovated space before it enters its next transformative stage.

“This outpouring of support has truly been inspiring,” said Joshua Sirefman, CEO of Michigan Central. “The Station is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of the city’s strength and a catalyst for innovation, and we’re proud to welcome the community back to this iconic Detroit landmark.”

Ford spent $1 billion renovating Michigan Central Station over the past several years, which just added its very first tenant – Google’s Code Next program, which is a computer science education programming focused on helping Black, Latinx, and Indigenous high school students pursue careers in technology. As for actual Blue Oval employees, they’re expected to begin moving into Michigan Central next year.
