Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2024 Ford Explorer models over an issue with the 12-volt battery cable.
The defect: in affected vehicles equipped with the 3.3L Hybrid engine, the 12-volt battery cable may chafe against the Belt-integrated Starter Generat (BiSG) and short circuit.
The hazards: a short circuit increases the risk of a fire.
Components: 12-volt battery cable.
Affected vehicles: select 2024 Ford Explorer models built at the Chicago Assembly plant between May 1st, 2023 and March 28th, 2024.
Number of vehicles affected: 61
The fix: dealers will install a tie strap between the battery cable and high voltage cable, free of charge.
Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on October 21st, 2024. The Ford reference number for this recall is 24S61.
