Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2024-2025 Ford E-Transit Chassis Cab models over an issue with the high voltage battery.
The defect: in affected vehicles, the tray side rails for the high voltage battery pack may buckle and crack.
The hazards: if the tray side rails crack, it can allow water to enter the battery. Significant amounts of water in the high voltage battery pack can result in an electrical short circuit, which could lead to a fire.
Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition. It is aware of six warranty reports and two field reports related to this condition.
Components: High Voltage Traction Battery Assembly
Affected vehicles: select 2024-2025 Ford Transit vehicles produced between April 18th, 2024, and January 27th, 2025.
Number of vehicles affected: 457
The fix: a dealership technician will inspect the high voltage traction battery assembly. Battery assemblies that show evidence of buckling or cracking will be replaced at no cost to vehicle owners. Battery assemblies that do not show evidence of cracks or buckling will have drainage holes added to the side rails.
Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin May 5th, 2025. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25S36. In the meantime, owners are advised to park their Ford E-Transit outside and away from structures until the recall repair is compete.
