Though there was a time – not too terribly long ago – when Ford considered pulling out of Australia, that’s no longer the case. Rather, that particular country now serves an important role in the automaker’s development process, and that’s certainly true of the latest-generation Ford Ranger – its best-selling model there. As it turns out, Ford Australia also fully conceived the brand new Ford Ranger Super Duty as well, which makes sense given the fact that it’s seemingly tailor made for that particular market, too.
According to CarSales, the idea for the Ford Ranger Super Duty was conceived by Ford Australia, and then shaped by fleets that rely on pickups for work duties there. In fact, Ford spoke with folks in a variety of industries including farming, emergency services, mining, and forestry to see what each considers to be its “ideal” work vehicle, as well as figure out how, exactly, each uses its vehicles currently.
What it found is that most were turning to pricey upgrades in an effort to increase the capability of those work vehicles, which was the driving factor behind making the Ford Ranger Super Duty ultra-capable right out of the box. The beefed-up pickup uses things like eight-lug wheels and a stronger chassis to give it an impressive 4,500 kilograms (9,920 pounds) of towing capacity, a 4,500 kilogram (9,920 pound) gross vehicle mass (GVM), and 8,000 kilograms (17,636 pounds) of gross combined mass (GCM), in fact.
Thus far, the Ford Ranger Super Duty has garnered praise for filling a large gap in the Aussie car market, and it may not be alone in that regard, either. Rather, as Ford Authority recently reported, the automaker hasn’t ruled out creating an Everest Super Duty either, though it’s not a certainty at the moment. What we do know is that Ford Australia will continue to sell ICE models for the foreseeable future, even amid increasing emissions standards in that country.

I have already paid my deposit on a pre order for a ranger super duty cab chassis! I have 3 previous rangers and am currently on my 2nd Ram 1500. To get my ram to similar specs to the ranger SD will cost me in excess of $30 k aud and then I’m still on a standard chassis!
On paper the Ranger will be far superior in nearly every aspect – I will miss my V8 😩.
I tow a 4t caravan and go off road as much as I can!
It might have been consieved in Australia but still made in Asia plus the motor is rubbish of it has a wet belt timing belt it only has to over heat once while towing and the motor is trashed don’t put winch on it and all the electrical equipment because it will over heat and 8 stud wheels make no sense at all out back people would supply them it’s only an upgrade ranger nothing different if they expect people to pay over 100 k I think most will stay with ram or Chevy Silverado or f 150 that can handle the towing and not be Asian cheap up graded
Are you sure?
The complete specs are not out yet. All we know is that it has a PS V6.
It also depends whether they sell it in Phillippines and Southeast Asia, since there it competes against the Isuzu D Max and Hilux….
It ALSO Depends whether they decide to sell it in Qatar, Kuwait, and Middle East where the 70 series dominates.
And that depends on how it is priced.
Looking at a Ranger Raptor. Needs a sunroof, white letter tires and a descent body side molding.
Looks amazing. Think we’ll be upgrading to one. Can take every toy you want and tow the big van!
