Ford Mustang GT3 Wins On Home Turf In Detroit From Pole Position

The 2025 Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic brought the heat right to Ford’s doorstep – and The Blue Oval showed hometown pride by winning the race from the pole. The No. 64 Ford Mustang GT3 outran a Chevy Corvette Z06 GT3.R for the top step on the podium on May 31st, 2025, earning invaluable points in the GTD Pro class in the fourth round of the 2025 IMSA season.

The No. 64 Ford Mustang GT3 was driven by Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx around the Detroit street course during the 100-minute sprint. The duo started from the front row alongside their Blue Oval brethren, the No. 65 Mustang GT3. Priaulx earned the honors of pole position after laying down a 1:10.922 lap around the nine-turn, 1.654-mile street course. They were followed to the green by the No. 65 Mustang GT3, which recorded a lap time of 1:11.251 to take the second starting position.

The No. 64 Ford Mustang GT3 hardly looked back, even as the No. 3 Corvette closed the distance in the event’s final moments. The No. 64 Mustang team is now third in GTD Pro points, while Ford claims the lead in the class manufacturer’s championship. The No. 65 Mustang, meanwhile, suffered early damage and finished 10th.

“To win in Detroit is a dream come true,” said Rockenfeller, fresh off his first win in the Mustang GT3. “It was a perfect weekend, where we started strong and didn’t make any mistakes to the finish. Finally, we got this top spot. It was not an easy race, because the competition is high here in IMSA. We had to be perfect in our driving, which makes this win especially rewarding. Thank you to Ford Performance, the Ford family and to Multimatic Motorsports for such a great day.”

“This is our backyard, and we love racing here in Detroit,” said Ford Performance global director Mark Rushbrook. “It’s such a incredible atmosphere here in the city, and it’s special for Ford Motor Company to come here – with such a great partner in Multimatic – with these Mustangs. To get a win here for our employees and families is fantastic.”
