Ford trucks have existed for quite a long time now, and in many different forms. Aside from the ones that we’re all well aware of that The Blue Oval has sold itself, that list also includes a lot of modified third-party examples of production pickups, many of which are, well, a bit bizarre to say the least. One could certainly say that about the custom Ford trucks built by a company called LCM-Centaurus, a conversion manufacturer formerly based in Elkhart, Indiana, but to us, this 1996 Ford F-350 Centaurus III is just a product of its era.
This 1996 Ford F-350 XLT Centaurus III is up for auction over at Bring a Trailer as a true relic from the ’90s, chock full of all of the things that folks liked to stick on pickups back then. On the outside, that list consists of black paint with gold multi-tone graphics, a front brush guard, a wind deflector, a windshield visor, cab clearance lights, a boomerang roof antenna, locomotive-style horns, revised lower bodywork, window rain guards, B- and C-pillar handles, and a raceback-style bar with cargo lights.
Inside, one will find a set of captain’s chairs and a rear bench seat trimmed in Medium Mocha vinyl, along with loads of Centaurus goodies – wood center, rear, and overhead consoles, door panel trim, a Cobra CB radio, a Whistler radar detector, air conditioning, cruise control, ambient roof lighting, a Tekonsha trailer brake controller, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo.
In the case of this Ford F-350, power comes from the 7.3L V8 Power Stroke diesel, factory rated to produce 215 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, driving the rear wheels only.
It isn’t every day that we come across a Ford Centaurus model in any kind of condition, making this one a hot target for anyone that’s ever wanted to own such a thing. In fact, the last time we saw a Centaurus cross the auction block was roughly five years ago.
Low- and middle-income households will be getting some new incentives.
Increasing market share in Q3, in fact.
