Back in August 2023, The Blue Oval unveiled a brand new retro car cover for the Fox Body Ford Mustang at Motor City FoxFest, which was held at the automaker’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. That premium piece is designed exclusively to fit pony cars produced between the 1979 and 1993 model years, providing some protection against the elements with a very cool retro style fitting of a vehicle that’s quickly becoming a coveted collectible.
Now, this official Fox Body Ford Mustang car cover has officially been added to the Ford Performance catalog, and in two different, distinct flavors. The first is the one that we saw previously, a gray and blue car cover that’s listed in the catalog under part number M-19412-FG1 with a retail price of $495. The second option – part number M-19412-FR1 – also retails for $495, and features a black and red design.
Either way one goes, these Fox Body Ford Mustang retro car covers feature tri-color graphics with a Ford Motorsport logo on the windshield banner area, sides, and rear, along with a Blue Oval on the hood, sides, and rear. The covers are made from a satin stretch material that allows for a more custom fit, with a soft interior lining that won’t damage the car’s finish. However, these covers do require that one remove the antenna to fit them, though they do come with a storage bag, which is a nice touch.
In terms of fitment, Ford has verified that the retro car covers are compatible with a variety of Fox Body-era pony cars. That list includes the 1979-1993 Mustang LX, GT, and Cobra Hatchbacks with factory spoilers, models with rear hatch glass louvers, 1988 T-Top models with late-build flag style mirrors, the 1984-1986 SVO, 1983-1993 Mustang Convertibles with a factory luggage rack or spoiler, 1987-1993 Saleen Hatchbacks, 1987-1993 Saleen Convertibles, 1979-1986 Mercury Capri Hatchbacks with factory spoilers, and 1979-1993 Mustang Notchbacks.
Comments
I’m not sure why fordauthority is so enamoured with the Ford Fox body vehicles.
I had an 85 Mustang and it was junk. Looking back, it’s still ugly as sin. imo.
Would have been nice if Ford had used the Mercury Motorsport colors instead of the black and red.
