The Ford Model A is – without a doubt – one of the most historically significant automobiles ever conceived, a vehicle that continued to help make cars mainstream after the successful debut of the Model T, which first brought such things to the masses. The Model A existed in many forms over the years as well, whether that be as a coupe, convertible, pickup, or just about anything else one can imagine. These days, we still see a wide variety of Ford Model A examples of all types at collector car auctions, including this – a 1930 USPS truck.
This 1930 Ford Model A USPS truck is set to cross the block at Mecum’s upcoming Larry’s Legacy auction next month, and it’s the real deal – not just some replica of an old mail carrier, in fact. It’s fitted with wooden coachwork from the York-Hoover Body company, which was designed specifically for use by the postal service, and it undoubtedly spend many hours doing precisely that – delivering the mail to the masses – in its heyday.
We certainly wouldn’t be able to tell that by looking at this old Model A, because it’s in fantastic condition today, though the auction listing doesn’t note if it has been restored, refurbished, or anything in between. Regardless, its green and black paintwork looks great, and there are some cool features like sliding side doors and rear cargo doors that set it apart from the pack.
In terms of power, that comes from a 201 cubic-inch inline-four cylinder engine, mated to a three-speed manual transmission, while there’s just a simple and single black seat present in the front portion of the cabin. Of course, what really mattered was the copious amounts of space in the rear, which is where many packages were stashed over the years.
In addition to this very cool Ford Model A USPS truck, we’ve seen a few other interesting examples go up for grabs in recent months. That list includes a one-family owned 1928 Model A, as well as 1930 motorhome version of the famous model.
