1997 Lincoln Town Car Miyagata Hearse From Japan Up For Auction

The Lincoln Town Car is one of several large, luxurious sedans that no longer exist, including many from that particular brand, which transitioned to an all-crossover/SUV lineup years ago. Though it may no longer be sold new, there are plenty of nice, gently used Lincoln Town Car models available on the collector car circuit, however, and we’re starting to see even more as time passes and folks realize that we may never see that model make a comeback. Now, this very unique example of the Lincoln Town Car joins that fray.

This 1997 Lincoln Town Car is up for auction at Cars & Bids, but it’s certainly not some stock example. Rather, it’s been converted into a Miyagata style hearse by a Japanese company, though it was just imported to the U.S. in November 2024. Interestingly, it’s a left-hand drive model that shows just under 20k miles on the clock, but it’s obviously not something we’d confuse with a regular example of the Town Car by any means.

Rather, this hearse conversion is fitted with a variety of ornate, hand‑crafted details that remain inline with traditional Japanese funeral customs. The giant, golden dragon riding atop the vehicle is the most obvious, of course, and it’s part of a highly detailed piece that’s truly show-worthy. Open up that addition, and it’s more of the same, as the inside is also beautifully crafted and highly detailed, though the front cabin remains unchanged.

Otherwise, this Lincoln Town Car is essentially stock, still equipped with the original, naturally-aspirated 4.6L Ford V8, which was factory-rated to produce 190 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.

This is certainly the most unique Lincoln Town Car we’ve seen hit the auction block in a long time – perhaps ever – but it isn’t alone, generally speaking. Most recently, we’ve also come across nice examples like a 1995 Town Car with 42k miles, as well as a 1999 Executive model with 23k miles.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
