2004 Mercury Marauder In Dark Toreador Red Up For Auction

Among its Panther platform counterparts, the Mercury Marauder remains the most sought-after of the bunch, which is to be expected for a high-performance sedan that was built in limited quantities. Despite that fact, we see loads of Marauders pop up for sale on a regular basis, generally in great condition with few miles on the clock, as one would expect for a model of that type. Now, this 2004 Mercury Marauder adds another option to the list for those seeking such a machine.

This 2004 Mercury Marauder is up for auction over at Hagerty with 65k miles on the clock, but perhaps most importantly, it’s finished in the rare exterior color known as Dark Toreador Red. Of the 3,214 units built in this particular model year, only 980 were finished in this color rather than black, which is by far the most prevalent. This example has remained in the possession of the original owner’s family since it was sold new, and it has reportedly been stashed away in a garage and never driven in inclement weather.

Otherwise, this Mercury Marauder remains in bone stock condition with just a few imperfections marring its exterior finish, and the Dark Charcoal leather interior looks to be in great shape, too. There are plenty of niceties present, including power-adjustable front seats, windows, locks, and mirrors, the factory AM/FM/CD stereo system, and air conditioning, plus the original Marauder leather jacket that came with the car.

In terms of power, that comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 4.6L V8, which in this guise was factory-rated to produce 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

This is just one of a few Mercury Marauder sedans we’ve seen hit the auction block as of late finished in the same rare color, however – that list also includes a supercharged example with just 15k miles on the clock, as well as another that was previously modified and then returned to stock by the seller.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. Brett, that looks like the light flint interior. I had a 2003 with the dark charcoal interior which is much darker. A good write up and my favorite exterior color.

  2. What would be a ” good price ” for this particular Marauder ?
