Re-bodied vintage Ford trucks have become increasingly popular as of late, for one specific reason – it’s something of a shortcut in terms of adding modern mechanicals to an older vehicle. Rather than individually piecing out things like powertrains and suspension components, one can simply purchase a Panther platform car like the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Marquis, or Lincoln Town Car, and slap the body parts from an old pickup on top. Now, this 1969 Ford F-100 concealing a 2005 Town Car underneath is up for grabs.
This 1969 Ford F-100 is currently being auctioned off at Bring a Trailer, and even though it looks like a ratty old pickup truck, there’s far more to the story than that. The body and bed of that vintage pickup cover up the chassis, engine, electrical, and drivetrain components from a 2005 Lincoln Town Car, in fact, though one would be hard-pressed to tell by looking at the rusty, primer-covered bodywork. However, the raised bed floor and Town Car wheels are a bit of a giveaway in that regard.
Peek inside, and that becomes even more apparent, thanks to leather-wrapped, power-adjustable seats, a beige dash, and other goodies taken directly from the donor Town Car. The Lincoln CD stereo and climate control system are also present and accounted for, making for a more luxurious experience inside the cabin – albeit one that’s well, a bit bizarre to look at.
Mechanically, the F-100 is also equipped with the Town Car’s naturally-aspirated 4.6L V8, cooling system, radiator, wiring, ECU, chassis, 4R70E four-speed automatic transmission, and a limited-slip differential, plus aluminum front control arms, power rack-and-pinion steering, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.
This Frankenstein-like creation is certainly cool and interesting, but we’ve seen this type of build on many occasions in the past. That includes a 1961 Ford F-100 that we spotted for sale back in March with Crown Victoria parts, too.
