The S197 generation Ford Mustang remains a popular target among shoppers for several reasons. It’s got great retro styling, coupled with modern powerplants, strong performance, and a solid rear axle, which is something that a lot of folks prefer over the newer independent rear suspension setup present in the S550 and S650. As such, we’re starting to see more and more Ford Mustang models from this generation pop up for sale at collector car auctions, oftentimes with few miles on the clock – a list that now includes this very nice 2007 Ford Mustang GT convertible.
This S197 Ford Mustang GT is slated to be sold at Mecum’s upcoming Monterey, California auction later this month, and it has a rather reasonable 23k miles on the clock, too. As such, it remains in great condition, with pretty much perfect Torch Red paint on the outside. That bright hue is complimented by even brighter chrome wheels from American Muscle, which sport a good old fashioned five spoke design and fit the retro styling of the vehicle quite well. It also hugs those wheels and sits a bit closer to the ground thanks to a set of lowering springs.
Inside, this pony car has a very nicely kept interior with tan upholstery, along with amenities such as the optional Shaker 1000 audio system, which is a nice addition for those warm weather cruising days with the top down.
Power comes from a familiar place as well – the naturally-aspirated Ford 4.6L V8, in this case, mated to an automatic transmission for easy cruising, if not accompanied by the fun of shifting one’s own gears.
Regardless, there are plenty of other S197 generation Ford Mustang models out there for the taking, in many different guises. That list includes a 2006 Mustang GT that we spotted recently with just 4k miles on the clock, as well as a 2006 GT convertible with 50k miles.
