Blue Oval enthusiasts are undoubtedly familiar with the Ford Mustang Boss nameplate, one of many high-performance models from a long string of high-performance vehicles. But internet users looking for information on the “2026 Ford Mustang Boss 429” are sure to be misled, as Google’s AI overview identifies the model as fact when in reality, it’s anything but.
Right away, Google’s AI overview undermines itself by saying that “rumors and unverified reports suggest that a new Ford Mustang Boss 429 could be released for the 2026 model year,” and that said model would “bring back the iconic muscle car nameplate.” It even cites several videos as its source, but it’s clearly unable to identify that said videos are also AI-generated, and therefore, completely false.
The overview goes on to say that the 2026 Ford Mustang Boss 429 would be powered by the naturally aspirated 7.3L Godzilla V8, which would deliver up to 729 horsepower, although a mystery 7.0L V8 is apparently also on the table, just like the real-life Boss 429 models of decades past. That begs the question: if it were to harness the 7.3L V8, why would it be tagged with “Boss 429,” since that particular engine is 445 cubic inches? That discrepancy alone should raise some eyebrows.
One of our favorite things about clanker slop is that it says that nonexistent Ford models will have “modern technology,” without specifying what that actually means. It also, once again, calls out Sync 5 software. Sync 5 doesn’t exist. The closest thing is the Ford Digital Experience. Apparently, the 2026 Ford Mustang Boss 429 will be extremely limited with just 2,500 units produced, carrying a base price ranging from $82,000 to $115,000. The false sense of scarcity could lure unsuspecting Ford fans into getting scammed, encouraging them to place a deposit on a model that doesn’t exist.
To Google AI’s credit, it does follow all that information up with a disclaimer that states its information was sourced from unconfirmed reports, and that it should be treated as speculative.
We suspect that the Boss 429 rumors stem from the trademark filing for “Ford Mustang Dark Horse Boss,” which hints at a new Boss model headed for the Mustang lineup. In fact, Ford Authority spotted a prototype and listened to it roar.
