The Ford GT MK IV is the perfect sendoff for the Ford GT line, harnessing some serious upgrades that set it apart from the GTLM race car that inspired it. In fact, the GT MK IV outperforms the Le Mans-winning GTLM race car in more ways than one, making it an absolute beast on and off the track.
Ford Performance already had a strong foundation to build on for the GT MK IV. It’s based on the race cars that finished first and third in the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, but it’s fitted with a brand new body, powertrain, and suspension, all of which make it an absolute killer on track. In fact, its twin-turbocharged 3.8L EcoBoost V6, built by Roush-Yates Engines, packs more power than those victorious race cars, harnessing over 820 horsepower.
The Ford GT MK IV also features a more advanced clutch than its race car counterparts, along with a paddle-shifted six-speed gear box. It rides on Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers, developed to support the vehicle’s more advanced suspension. The driver is able to make tweaks to that system while driving, eliminating the need to stop for adjustments. Meanwhile, the carbon fiber chassis is the same as the Ford GT and GT MK II race cars, but in this instance, it features a specialized roll cage, which is exclusive to the GT MK IV.
The Ford GT MK IV is capable of 2,400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, and pulls 3g while cornering. Combined, all those advanced features make the supercar a foolproof track-killing machine – in fact, it laid down better lap times with non-professional drivers at the helm than the GTLM race car did with factory drivers in control.
Just 67 examples of the GT MK IV will exist when production wraps up. While most are already spoken for, The Blue Oval is currently accepting inquiries for the remaining units. Interested parties have until October 15th, 2025 to place their orders.
