Rented S650 Ford Mustang Convertible Gets Stuck At Daytona Beach: Video

Daytona Beach is one of the few spots in Florida that permits driving on the sand, which is a novelty that often spells disaster for unsuspecting tourists with zero off-road experience. YouTuber Sandtow documents his efforts to rescue stranded motorists in Volusia County, and his latest escapade involves hauling out a rented S650 Ford Mustang convertible that became very stuck.

The driver of the Ford Mustang was a bit ambitious with their plans to take a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) rental for a cruise on the beach. Sandtow‘s video shows that it was raining before he got to the muscle car, meaning the sand was a little softer than usual. The driver likely panicked when they felt the back end of the car sink into the sand and gave it a little too much throttle, literally burying the tires.

Video still of the S650 Ford Mustang convertible stuck on the beach. Thankfully, it was easy to tow out.

To their credit, they attempted to rescue the Ford Mustang themselves, digging out around the tires and even grabbing some wooden boards to use for traction. Sandtow gets a little bit of a laugh when he’s asked if he has a rope – of course he does; he runs a towing service, after all – and promptly gets to work rescuing the drop-top.

They hook up the Mustang and help clear some more sand out of the way to give the muscle car as much traction as it can on the soft sand. After moving the final board out of the way, Sandtow instructs the driver to turn off traction control and mounts into his pickup to haul the Mustang out. He’s easily able to back it out of its self-imposed sand trap “like butter,” in his own words. Hopefully, the driver of that Mustang learned a valuable lesson about taking a low-slung RWD vehicle onto the beach, even if it seems solid like the sands of Daytona.

At least this tow truck driver knows what he’s doing, unlike the driver of a Ford Explorer that treated their crossover more like a boat than a roadgoing vehicle.
