Unlocked 2025 Ford Explorer ST Benefits From New Tune: Video

Ford’s relatively new Fully-Networked Vehicle (FNV) electrical architecture has made its modern vehicles more difficult to tune, but the aftermarket tuning community recently got a boost when HP Tuners cracked the encryption. Naturally, the Ford Mustang was the first Blue Oval vehicle to be tinkered with, but all newer Blue Oval vehicles will eventually benefit from the encryption being broken.  In fact, Livernois Motorsports recently released a video proving just what kind of numbers they’re getting from their tuned 2025 Ford Explorer ST, turning an already surprisingly quick crossover into a performance powerhouse.

As a reminder, the 2025 Ford Explorer ST harnesses the twin-turbocharged 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine. Before adding their tune, Livernois Motorsports throws the bone stock Explorer ST, with a tank full of 93 octane fuel, on the dyno to see what it throws. It makes 319 horsepower and 412 pound-feet of torque.

Video still of the 2025 Ford Explorer ST on the dyno. Livernois Motorsports is able to increase its power with a simple flash tune.

After a quick flash, they return to the dyno to see just how much of an improvement they can coax out of the 2025 Ford Explorer ST. This time, it measures in at 387 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque. The gains are nearly double what the company was able to produce back in a similar test of their tune in 2020.

“That horsepower number, though, really only tells part of the story,” the Livernois rep explains. “One of the things we’re dealing with when we’re doing extensive calibration on these is we’re increasing the usable horsepower.”

He then goes on to explain that at 5,700 RPM, the 2025 Ford Explorer ST was only able to give 277 horsepower. After the tune, they were able to coax 382 horsepower at that same RPM, which is an “amazing gain in a usable range.” It’s not going to stop there, though, as Livernois plans to release ethanol blending tunes along with mods, including a new intercooler, exhaust mods, and cold air intake. As the tuner puts it, “Everyone who deals with these things knows how well they respond to modifications,” referencing the Explorer ST, of course.
