Back on Monday, The Blue Oval unveiled its ambitious universal EV platform and various other updates pertaining to the new architecture, which will underpin a variety of future models, starting with a mid-size Ford EV pickup. Unfortunately, the automaker didn’t unveil the Ford EV pickup at that time – nor did it even tell us what it will be called – but we did learn a few interesting tidbits about it. Now, those details continue to flow in, as the new Ford EV pickup will apparently be quite aerodynamic and tech-heavy.

According to Automotive News, the new Ford EV pickup was shown off in prototype form to a group of dealers in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier this year. A couple of attendees stated that the pickup is “sleek and aerodynamic” in appearance, and features a “mostly digital interior featuring a large screen.” Those same attendees also confirmed that the new pickup is actually closer in size to the compact Ford Maverick than the mid-size Ford Ranger, interestingly.

We have seen one vague teaser image of the future Ford EV pickup, which shows off at least one of these attributes – the vehicle’s sleekness – via a slick body panel devoid of openings or vents. Otherwise, Ford stated that its new EV pickup will be “as fast as a Mustang EcoBoost” and will offer “more passenger space than the latest Toyota RAV4 – with a frunk and a bed,” giving owners the ability to lock their surfboards or other gear in the bed without the need for a roof rack or trailer hitch racks. It will reportedly utilize a very small battery, too.

The future model will only be offered in four-door guise with lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, and a targeted starting price of $30,000. It will be produced at the Louisville Assembly plant, as expected, with a launch date of 2027, as well as a potential max annual capacity of 190,000 units. There’s still a lot we don’t know about the forthcoming model – its actual reveal date, final starting price, EPA-estimated battery range, and charging times. However, as Ford Authority reported last week, the new Ford EV pickup could use the Ranchero name, based on a recent trademark filing in the U.S.

  • I think the quote “a bed, giving owners the ability to lock their surfboards or other gear in the bed without the need for a roof rack or trailer hitch racks“ is telling. For a surfboard to lock and fit completely in the bed of a midsize 4-door it would suggest a pass through which Ford has patented similar to the Chevy Avalanche.
