Clankers Fall Hard For 2027 Ford Explorer Lies: AI Slop Report

Online misinformation is nothing new, but AI-generated search overviews are making it worse, dishing out fake “news” that appears credible at first glance. Case in point: anyone searching for information on the yet-to-be-announced 2027 Ford Explorer will find claims of a redesign reportedly inspired by the racing Ford SuperVan, which could not be further from the truth.

That horrible misinformation comes from Google’s AI overview – the usual culprit, of course. We’ll preface this by saying that, yes, the 2027 Ford Explorer is expected to undergo a redesign, so at least the AI gets that part correct. What it doesn’t get right is the supposition that the forthcoming Explorer will be inspired by the Ford SuperVan – which, for readers who may not be aware, is a race-prepared electric van that’s quite fast.

So, what exactly does AI think the 2027 Ford Explorer is getting from the SuperVan? The overview goes on to explain that the crossover is expected to get a completely new look, which, sure, that makes sense for a redesign. But it also seems to think that said looks will be heavily inspired by the SuperVan, including a “modern front end with a horizontal lightbar and blend of style and utility.” The AI can’t even really pin down what sort of inspiration the SuperVan will provide for the Explorer, and doesn’t mention specifics.

Interestingly, despite being particularly attached to the Ford SuperVan aspect, the AI overview goes on to explain that it thinks the 2027 Ford Explorer will get hybrid powertrain options, not all-electric, which would be expected from a SuperVan-inspired model. It even bizarrely points out that the crossover is expected to get “traditional door handles” as though that’s a selling point.

The absolute failure to report correct information on the 2027 Ford Explorer is a stark contrast to the AI overview’s ability to accurately spit out information on the 2026 Ford Explorer. In fact, it gets everything about the 2026 Explorer right, right down to its revised trim level lineup.
