The Ford Mustang Mach-E debuted for the 2021 model year as an all-new EV crossover from a brand that – at the time – had big ambitions in terms of electric vehicles, in general. After getting off to a hot start, these newer EVs like the Mach-E have since dealt with lower than expected growth in terms of demand, however. Thus, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has yet to receive its first official mid-cycle refresh or redesign, though prior rumors have indicated that either was set to happen in 2026 or 2027. Now, those plans have apparently been pushed back.
According to Automotive News, The Blue Oval has delayed its plans to redesign the Ford Mustang Mach-E until the end of the decade. In the meantime, it will continue to explore ways to remove costs from the EV crossover, has it has done over the past few years already, working to make it a profitable product. Regardless, Ford also doesn’t plan to move Mach-E production to the U.S. from Mexico either, despite having to pay tariffs for such a decision.
This news comes after multiple reports have indicated that the Ford Mustang Mach-E would be receiving substantial changes much earlier than 2030. Back in late 2022, a report claimed that the next-generation Mach-E was slated to launch in 2026 and add a coupe model to the lineup – entering production in the summer and sticking around until June 2031 for the coupe and June 2033 for the regular model before the next update.
Then, in September 2024, another report claimed that the Ford Mustang Mach-E would instead get its redesign in 2027 – one that includes not only a revamp in terms of exterior styling and features, but also, the addition of a new platform as well. The same report claims that the Mach-E lineup will continue to expand to include new “derivatives and special editions,” though production will remain at the Cuautitlan Assembly plant in Mexico.
