We’ve known for a while now that Ford Racing is working on developing a new hypercar, set to compete at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027 – where it will join the Ford Mustang GT3, though the pony car competes in the LMGT3 class. Prototype racing is something that The Blue Oval has plenty of experience with, but it’s been decades since we last saw a Ford racer in that type of venue, officially, at least. French chassis manufacturer ORECA will supply the new hypercar’s chassis, but it seems as if Ford Racing will be handling everything else.
Ford Racing will indeed operate the automaker’s new hypercar program, which isn’t too terribly common in that particular segment of motorsport. “This gives us the ability to react faster on track, enhancing our competitiveness. It also allows us to bring technology back to our road cars more effectively and efficiently than ever before,” said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Racing.
“Breaking from the traditional model of many manufacturers – and often our own model in the past – Ford Racing will oversee and manage every aspect of our prototype sports car racing project led by program manager Dan Sayers. We will also build our own internal expertise to create a framework for long-term success and learnings that will find their way into customer programs of the future.”
Rushbrook admits that going this route won’t be easy, particularly since Ford intends to have its hypercar on the track and competing in less than two years – not to mention have the entire team staffed. Regardless, he’s confident that Ford Racing can happen. “We are bringing in the leading mechanics and skilled racing trades people from around the world,” he said. “The best marketers and communications people will tell this story from within. And, most satisfying of all, we will have the support of our global Ford family everywhere we race.”

Go Ford Racing!!! Great to see the company competing in almost every competitive category on the planet! Lots to learn, and lot to experiment with, and as suggested, some tech to shunt down into road going vehicles.
I'd LOVE to see the cost of this program!!
I'm wondering if this is in part to address criticisms about Ford's relationship with previous partners like Multimatic where haters claim Ford writes a check and Multimatic does all the work and Ford slaps a blue oval on the product.
All the same, it's nice to see Ford taking the project in house but I'm sure the same haters will whine about how they are using (a mandated I believe) ORECA chassis and not developing a chassis from the ground up.
