Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a bedside convertible work station that may be used in future Ford pickups, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on February 17th, 2022, published on September 30th, 2025, and assigned serial number 12427906.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed several patents introducing us to a few different ideas for convertible work stations over the past few years – one, back in 2023, and another, just a couple of weeks ago. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going with another concept for a potential bedside convertible work station that could be used in future Ford pickups, and it’s pretty similar to the one from a couple of years ago – with one notable difference.
Here, the idea once again revolves around a special panel that’s located inside the bed and is accessible from the outside. It’s similar to the existing RamBox Cargo Management System that’s already available on the Ram 1500 in that it provides owners with a new space to store tools and other valuables that would keep them out of sight and the reach of prying eyes, all without taking up existing space. What’s particularly unique about this updated patent filing, however, is that its power outlet could swivel around and face either the inside of the bed or the outside, making it even more useful in that regard.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
