Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a mat for a base plate with apertures that may be used in future Ford pickups, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on March 8th, 2024, published on September 11th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0282304.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed quite a few patents in recent months revolving around one particular idea – base plates that could wind up being used in its future pickups. These filings have presented us with ideas for an adjustable base plate system, base plates with power outlets, and a base plate system with a swivel lock, to name just a few. Now, that list has expanded yet again, this time, to include a newly published patent for a mat for a base plate with apertures that may be used in future Ford pickups, too.
In this case, Ford proposes a new sort of bed mat for its future pickups that has apertures built right into it, designed to secure all sorts of things and prevent them from sliding around when one is driving. They serve as mounting points for accessories, and in that regard, the possibilities are quite literally endless. As for the mat itself, it’s designed to include an attachment structure that can be secured to the base plate, which also presumably would make it easier to remove when one doesn’t need or want to use it.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
