Tim Burton - better known by his YouTube handle, Shmee150 - has a soft spot for high-performance Blue Oval vehicles. Naturally, he is one of the few automotive enthusiasts on the short list to buy a Ford Mustang GTD, and now he finally has the keys in hand and takes it for a spin for the first time.
Burton gets the run of Circuit Paul Ricard to help him make the decision once and for all: is the Ford Mustang GTD worth keeping, or should he pass it up? His garage is already packed to the gills with the likes of the Ford GT and the Ford Mustang Dark Horse. Burton is impressed with the selectable drive modes right off the bat, and he's more than ready to hit the track.
Burton is impressed that the Ford Mustang GTD "feels very, very forgiving," and calls the vehicle an "absolute brute." And he hasn't even used Track Mode yet. Track Mode sets the vehicle up with a lower ride height, making it a track killer. He notes that it's so much flatter and lower in Track Mode, which has its downsides. He can feel the rapport of every groove and rock through the steering wheel, but it's not a deterrent.
While the Ford Mustang GTD can clearly hold its own on track, how does it do on the road? Burton takes it out of the track limits to find out. It's "smooth, easy, comfortable" on the street and doesn't seem out of place off the racetrack. Burton comments that the ride is firm, but that's not a detriment to its performance. While the vehicle is perfectly happy traveling at highway speeds, it seems to be straining at the bit, ready to run at a moment's notice.
Overall, Burton is thoroughly impressed with the Ford Mustang GTD, meaning it will be right at home in his collection. Fellow automotive personalities Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Jay Leno, who received his GTD directly from Ford CEO Jim Farley.
