TV and movie cars always tend to attract plenty of interest on the auction circuit, and for good reason – there are plenty of folks that enjoy owning small or big screen famous rides, particularly when they were driven by big name stars. Generally, these vehicular actors tend to rake in good money at auction, and it’ll certainly be interesting to see if that’s also the case with this 1969 Mercury Cougar, which was driven by actress Dakota Johnson in the 2018 film “Bad Times at the El Royale.”
Now, this 1969 Mercury Cougar is set to be auctioned off at Mecum’s Dallas/Fort Worth sale in early November, after appearing in that film, as well as The CW’s TV series ‘”Supernatural,” where was seen in Season 14, episode 9, dubbed “The Spear.” On the outside, one might assume that it’s a high-performance Eliminator, but that’s actually not the case, as it’s merely a replica sporting the same type of styling elements.
Those include Cougar Eliminator side graphics, of course, joined by super clean blue paint, a rear wing, and wheels wrapped with white letter tires. While many former movie and TV cars look a bit, well, worn, that seemingly isn’t the case here.
Inside, one will find a matching blue interior with bucket seats up front and some faux wood trim, and it’s in pretty nice condition, too. There’s also a special brake pedal installed for stunt purposes that remains intact.
In terms of power, that comes from the naturally-aspirated 351 cubic-inch Windsor V8, which is fitted with aluminum cylinder heads and is mated to an automatic transmission.
This is just the latest of several former Blue Oval-based TV show and movie cars we’ve seen hit the auction block in recent months, which always seem to conjure up plenty of interest. That list also includes the 1987 Lincoln Town Car driven by Matthew McConaughey in the movie The Lincoln Lawyer back in 2011, as well as number one of nine Ford Grand Torinos used in the filming of the 2004 movie Starsky and Hutch.
