The Lincoln Town Car was long a symbol of luxury, a large and cushy sedan that – for a lot of folks – was a symbol that they had indeed “made it” in life. Much has changed over the years, however, and the Town Car no longer exists, currently resting in the proverbial automotive nameplate graveyard in the sky like all U.S. Blue Oval sedans. However, there are plenty of nice Lincoln Town Car models still hitting the auction circuit on a regular basis, including this very clean 1988 example with just 39k miles showing on the odometer.
This 1988 Lincoln Town Car is currently up for auction at Cars & Bids, and it remains in pretty amazing condition with just a few flaws noted in the listing – a scratch and a couple of exterior blemishes, along with a little trim that’s separating here and there. Otherwise, the sedan’s black exterior looks to be in great shape, and there are no accidents to report, either. Along with chrome trim, the exterior features a set of 15-inch Lacy-spoke alloy wheels, too.
Inside, one will find a Cabernet interior that has a couple of tears in the door trim, but otherwise, it looks solid. The seats are upholstered in cloth, and joined by amenities such as automatic climate control, cruise control, a cassette stereo system, and power windows, door locks, and side mirrors.
This Lincoln Town Car is powered by the naturally-aspirated Ford 5.0L V8, factory-rated to produce 150 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. That power flows to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission, and the engine breathes through an updated factory-style dual exhaust system.
Typically, we tend to see newer Lincoln Town Car models on the auction circuit, and not too many of these boxy examples. However, the 1987 Town Car featured in the movie The Lincoln Lawyer back in 2011 also surfaced for sale this past May, too.
