The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is a track weapon that somehow keeps it street-legal, built to handle daily drives just as easily as pole-winning laps. Of course, the six-figure killer is perfectly comfortable on track, and as though we needed more proof, a recent video from Late Model Restoration (LMR) shows just how aggressive the pony really is.
Jude Horstman from LMR gives his perspective on the Ford Mustang GTD. He had plenty of time to make friends with the track-ready pony in Hastings, Nebraska for Mustang Roundup and Fast Forwards. Horstman explains that Blue Oval engineers were not overly concerned with how the Mustang GTD looked as much as they were with its overall performance – although they didn’t sacrifice much in the looks department at the end of the day.
Turned loose amongst a horde of its Mustang brethren, the Ford Mustang GTD digs in and lays down some blisteringly fast lap times. It already proved its mettle at the Nürburgring by posting a sub-seven-minute lap time. In fact, that particular time wasn’t even supposed to happen – it was recorded during a test run, shocking everyone.
The Ford Mustang GTD also has a window that shows off the rear suspension, something that Horstman was looking forward to seeing in person. He explains how that was an accident, too – they had to mount the rear suspension sideways because of the width of the rear tires, which posed a problem. An access panel was a must, so instead of blocking that panel off, designers installed plexiglass to not only allow for easy access, but to show off the suspension, too.
As reported by Ford Authority, the Ford Mustang GTD is a rare machine. Under 2,000 units are slated for production. And speaking of its assembly, production numbers are on the rise – it’s a simpler build than the Ford GT, meaning it’s a bit quicker to build.
Includes a luxurious chrome grille, plus more.
Spiritually, the original Capri and the EV are one in the same.
Another nice example of the limited-edition model.
Too bad this never made it to production.
It's reportedly only one of two driven by the late legend.
