2026 Ford Explorer Drops Dealer Installed Keypad Option

The SecuriCode keyless entry keypad has shifted roles across The Blue Oval’s lineup, moving from a factory-installed option to a dealer-installed feature. The Ford Explorer has seen the feature shift availability several times over the past few model years. After initially switching to a dealer-installed keypad as part of its refresh, the 2025 Explorer regained it as a factory installed option – and as of the 2026 Ford Explorer, that’s the only way to get it.

Sources familiar with the matter told Ford Authority that the SecuriCode keypad for the 2026 Ford Explorer will be offered solely as a factory-installed accessory. In other words, it’s no longer available as a dealer-installed option.

The SecuriCode keypad is offered on all 2026 Ford Explorer trims including Active Base, Active, ST-Line, Tremor, ST, and Platinum models. It’s a $455 extra on these trims. Note that in order to equip the feature on the Explorer Active, the Active Comfort Package must also be added, which is a $3,145 bundle.

As a reminder, the SecuriCode keypad is mounted to the driver door B-pillar, enabling owners to set a code to access their vehicle without a key fob. It can be used to just lock or unlock the driver’s door, but can also lock or unlock all doors or release the liftgate.

Other changes headed to the greater 2026 Ford Explorer line include the deletion of the Panoramic Vista Roof, replaced with a fixed glass option across the board. The crossover is also losing the Ultimate Package, going hand-in-hand with the elimination of the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 as an option on Platinum-trimmed models. However, that engine is still standard on ST and optional on the all-new Tremor trim.

Pricing for the 2026 Ford Explorer lineup has increased ever-so-slightly compared to its 2025 model year counterpart. The most affordable model in the lineup is the new Active 100A base trim, which starts at $38,465 not accounting for destination freight charges.
